Uniform Guidelines

Parents and coaches are responsible for ensuring their athlete’s uniforms are appropriate for kids competition. Uniforms for competitions must not present unfair advantages or risks of injury due to physical or hygienic condition, material, length, or thickness. Uniforms cannot have rips or tears, be wet or dirty, or have unpleasant odors.

Prepare ahead of time

All uniform colors are permitted.

If, at any time, a referee or Dream official determines that your uniform does not meet competition standards, we recommend you be prepared to:

  • Have a spare uniform for your athlete

  • Borrow a uniform from a friend

  • Purchase a uniform from an on-site vendor if available

If none of those options are suitable, the competitor will be disqualified from the bracket, and we will no longer be able to guarantee any matches, credits, or refunds.

In the unfortunate case of a disqualification due to an improper uniform, the athlete will no longer be able to compete for a medal. The staff will try to find an exhibition match, but it is not guaranteed.

Gi uniforms

An athlete’s Gi should be tailored for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions and not for other martial arts.

An athlete will be required to change their Gi if it leaves marks on an opponent’s Gi.

Gi’s are subject to the same measurement guidelines as IBJJF: Gi Measurements

Boys: Wearing a rashguard under your Gi is optional.

Girls: It is mandatory for the use of a stretchy or elastic shirt, gymnastics top, or one piece bathing suit that hugs the body beneath the Gi.

No gi uniforms

The top must be made of elastic material, form fitting, and long enough to cover the torso all the way to the waistband of the shorts.

Bottoms must reach at least half way down the thigh, and must be secure enough that there is no risk of coming off during competition.

Not permitted in matches:

  • Tshirts or tshirt material

  • Tank tops

  • Showing of any stomachs or armpits

  • Loose-fitted tops where extra material can create risk of injury

  • Pockets

  • Exposed drawstrings

  • Zippers

  • Any form of plastic or metal that could present risk during matches

  • Basketball shorts

  • Denim shorts

  • Gi uniforms (tops or bottoms)

Disqualification

If none of the above options are suitable, the competitor will be disqualified from the bracket, and we will no longer be able to guarantee any matches, credits, or refunds.

In the unfortunate case of a disqualification due to an improper uniform, we will try to find an exhibition match, but it will not be for a medal and cannot be guaranteed.
